Colors:
Just like in bathrooms, white also leads the way in kitchen design. While white is still number one, gray is likely to take it's place this year, with it's popularity ever-growing.
- Classic Black and White (mixed with wood to 'warm up' the look)
- Muted Color Palettes- charcoal, gray, gray-green (earthy tones)
- Navy blue and lighter pastel blues
Cabinets
Hardware Options: hydraulic hinges, soft-close door and drawer hinges, and push-button hinges
Style Options: Shaker Style, Horizontal Cabinets, and Frameless, European Style Cabinets also called Slab Cabinets
Finishes: Lighter finishes- Walnut, White-Wash, and White Oak; Espresso cabinets continue to be a top choice for homeowners, however it is likely nearing the end of it's popularity
Options: Doors that open and slide into the cabinet; pull-outs and roll-outs, more customization than ever with an emphasis on storage!
Appliances
With more and more people focusing on their health, Gourmet style kitchens are growing in popularity. That's because they improve your ease of cooking allowing you to cook healthy, restaurant-style meals right at home
More Trends Include:
- Commercial Grade Appliances
- Steam Ovens
- Built-in Coffee Machines
- Wine Coolers/Refrigerators
- Metal Range Hoods (great accent for neutral colors)
- Black Stainless Steel Appliances
- Cooktop and wall oven combos (with free standing ovens declining in popularity)
- Refrigerators with the freezer on the bottom
- Double Appliances (2 dishwashers, steam oven and conventional oven, etc)
- Smart Appliances (Ovens that text you when your food is ready with Twitter capabilities and more)
- Water Efficiency (this trend carries over from 2015 and is expected to stay)
Countertops
Granite still reigns supreme for most homeowners, this year we are seeing more white granite.
More Trends Include:
- Mixing Countertops- Granite and Butcher Block, or Marble and Granite, etc
- Butcher Block (this fits into the overall wood-look that's so popular this year)
- Quartz (it's durable, maintenance free, and has many styles and colors to choose from)
- Raising Countertop Heights
- Multi-Level Countertops
Styles
Industrial Style with a hint of elegance
Mirrored Tile Mixed Tile
Kitchens are brighter than ever with under-cabinet lights, above-cabinet lights,inside cabinet lighting, lights underneath countertop overhang, and floor lights that are installed underneath base cabinets- in front of toe kick
Trends Also Include:
- Bold Fixtures (Larger lights and bold Industrial styles)
- Feature lighting (focal point of room) chandeliers and pendants
- Smart Lighting- they save money and are functional: wireless dimmers, wireless keypads, smart switches, smart bulbs, smart hubs and plugs, LED lights, and motion-activated lights
Flooring
Wood is THE # 1 trend in flooring this year; real hardwood, faux wood, white-washed wood, dark wood, etc.
Sinks
There are many new sink styles in the kitchen this year, they include:
- Trough Style Sinks (Work well in Industrial-style kitchens)
- Colored Sinks- Meant to be the focal point of the room and/or add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral-colored space
- Granite and other stone sinks
- Single Basin Sinks are making a comeback (includes trough-style, rectangular undermount, etc.)
- Enameled Cast Iron Sinks went out around 2008 but they are coming back this year
Fixtures
- Motion-sensor faucets were big in 2015 and continue to increase in popularity
- Brass fixtures with a satin finish (not shiny- 80's style with an elegant twist)
- Traditional Style fixtures
More Kitchen Trends
- More Storage (pull-outs in cabinets, drawer organizers, pantry pull-outs, etc)
- Integrated Kitchen and Living Areas (even more so than before with hidden fixtures and/or appliances to help seamlessly merge rooms)
- Texture on texture contrast (not mixing and matching but reconfiguring the same material to look slightly different
- Home offices in the kitchen
- No kitchen table at all or counter-height and pub tables
- Built-in Tablet and Phone holders
- Entire home smart systems that control light functionality, Smart kitchen appliances, etc.
