    2016 Bathroom Trends

Is a bathroom remodel on your wishlist this year? Heiston Kitchen and Bath is taking bathroom design to a new level, utilizing the top trends and technology in the industry. Below are some of the trends we are seeing in Northern Virginia area  bathrooms.

    1. Wood
2015 saw a growing interest in wood-look tile in the kitchen and throughout the home in living rooms and dining rooms. This year it's extending to the bathroom, along with
reclaimed wood (from barns and ships),
white-washed wood, painted wood, stained wood, and geometric-patterned wood tile. This trend isn't just for the floor, it's also being used on accent walls, bathroom furniture, shower bases, and  ceilings,  Wood creates a feeling of warmth and depth making your bathroom a relaxing space to be in.

    2. Colors

Beige has been the reigning color in bathrooms for the past decade, but this year its being replaced by white-- white fixtures, white walls, white accents, white furniture, and even white faucets. It's easier to create a fresh and clean ambiance with white. Benefits of using white in your bathroom: allows you to be more adventurous with tile and/or accent colors, can be used to help draw the eye to the focal point in your bathroom (i.e. wooden beams on the ceiling or a free-standing tub), white walls and fixtures can be used along with strategically placed mirrors and lighting to make a small bathroom appear more spacious.

If white is too plain for you, some other colors to try this year are shades of blue and green, rich dark color tones, gray, black and white, and even some shades  of pink!

    3. Tile

With so many new ideas and tile options this year, none are more exciting or have more possibilities than textured tile (pictured left).
Textured tile adds instant depth and interest to your bathroom.

New production technologies are blending artisan technique with inkjet printing to create a myriad of tile options, including waves, geometric patterns, floral motifs, and replicas of organic materials such as wood, marble, and slate.

    More Tile Trends in 2016:

    - Creative tile patterns and unusual layouts
    - Hand-made tiles (adds a personal and unique touch to the bathroom)
    - Simple Tile Patterns (for the minimalist look)
    - Large tile
    - Natural stone look (using ceramic and porcelain tile)
    - Cement Tile

    - Gray tile

Showers alone could be considered a trend this year. Some shower features that are big this year include steam showers, shower lights, shower seating, tubs in the shower, no threshold showers, heavy glass enclosures, and high tech showers. Showers are also doubling in size.

    5. Plumbing Fixtures

Some plumbing fixture trends from 2015 are still relevant now, including undermount sinks, oil rubbed bronze and brushed nickel finishes, even showers, although this year they're getting bigger and better. Free-standing tubs with fillers, trough-style sinks, square-shaped faucets and shower heads, are also 'in' this year. Popular finishes include polished chrome, rose gold, brass tones, warm colored copper, and satin nickel. Water efficiency remains an important factor along with smart features including touchless faucets and toilets.
